Today I added 67 shares of CTSH @ $73.50 because it was a winner that I want to ride. Today was also the end of the month and end of the year. It didn’t end as a positive for me, but I have seen worse and I have seen better, but in no one year did I learn more than I did this year. I now feel that I can short stocks in a down market and make money. Does that mean that it is a guarantee? No, nothing is a guarantee, but I do feel armed and ready if I need to play that card. I believe that I finally have come to grips with taking a loss and moving on without getting so upset or mind clogged. I have learned to mange my risk and I learned to never invest in a loser and always put more money into my winners. Considering that I had a $680 loss for the year with all that knowledge gained, it was actually a pretty cheap lesson when you consider what people pay for these lessons given by an instructor. Then you still have to go out there and try to apply it with real money. So with with everything that I learned, let me finish with my trading rules.
Mark’s Golden Rules for Trading:
1. Never fight a trend.
2. Never buy stocks long, unless overall market is in an uptrend.
3. Never short stocks unless overall market is in a downtrend.
4. Always, always, always use a stop loss order.
5. Never double down on a losing position.
6. Always reinvest or buy more of your winners.
7. Never listen to the news, TV, or other source of crap. You must trade what you see.
8. Let someone critic your positions and do not get defensive. They might see something you do not.
9. Never complain or whine about taking a profit.
10. Never sell a winner for sake of selling it or to make a month or year. Ride until stopped out.
