TSP end of week and end of month numbers. Not to bad!

For as bad as May felt, it turned out not so bad. Every index was up over 1% and every TSP fund was up over 1% except the G and L-fund. Our year to date numbers also do not look so bad. Yeah not as good as last year, but making money. The biggest one year turn around was the International index because last year it was down 3.12% and this year up 1.72% for the month. C-fund was the winner at 2.72% and the loser, if you want to call a gain a loser was the g-fund at .2%. I managed to squeak out a 1.70% gain but once again the L-2050 beat me. My current distribution is to conservative to beat or overtake the L-2050, but that is just fine with me as long as I’m making money. I’m learning now how to manage my TSP account so when I retire, I will not be scared to make moves with large amounts of money.

So it is monthly move time. If price on an index closed above the 10 period average in blue, then the index is a buy or hold if you’re already invested in that index. If price is below the 10 period, then you bailout or sell. That’s it. Let’s look at the monthly charts for the C, S, I, and F.

sp-monthly

The C-fund is a buy or hold.

S-fund is a buy or hold.

The I-fund is a buy or hold

F-fund is a buy or hold.

Ok we have 5 indexes but only 4 are tracked. The G-fund always makes money but only 2% a year at best. The other 4 indexes have the potential to make and lose large percentages of money but as long as you have a plan, you can control it. C, S, I, and F are all buys. So 100% of your money could just be divided 25% into each one and that makes it simple. That’s where I am now and will likely stay that way for awhile until the S-fund becomes a buy on the daily chart.

The L-funds are all buys but you just need to pick one to be invested in. L-income is for when your retired and is very conservative. The bigger the number the more risky it is and that is the easiest way to remember it. So the 2020 is not as risky as the 2030 and so on and so on till you reach the 2050. Just remember all the L-funds are just made up of the C-S, I, F, and G and are mixed to help you manage risk.

So, for the month of June, Everything is a buy or hold. No change from May. That was simple.
